Welcome Back: COVID-19 Safety Procedures

16 Jul 2020 by  admin in News

Welcome back to Long Island Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry. We know it’s been a long four months if you’ve been suffering from tooth pain or putting off a much-needed cosmetic procedure. However, we have been following the latest safety procedures to ensure that every precaution is taken to safely attend to your cosmetic dentistry needs. We are open to resume routine maintenance and provide new patient consultations, as well as perform all the essential emergency procedures.

Long Island Dentists Are Open for Business

As of June 19th, every state allowed dental offices to reopen for all procedures, according to the American Dental Association. Current patient volume is at roughly 60 percent of what it was around March 15th when lockdowns began.

It’s natural to feel anxious about a trip to the dentist’s office, but the pandemic only worsens the fear. Yet, health specialists and epidemiologists told the New York Times they feel comfortable returning to their doctors. Neglecting routine oral care is unwise, as poor dental hygiene has been linked to heart disease and strokes. We have taken extra protective measures to meet the highest health standards for our clientele.

What Is Long Island Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry Doing to Protect Patients?

In this time of coronavirus, our experienced health care professionals are taking the following safety measures:

  • All staff members will be wearing personal protective gear.
  • Hospital-grade disinfectants are being used in combination with the latest sterilization protocols.
  • Single-use disposable materials are used whenever possible.
  • Frequently touched items like magazines and children’s toys have been removed from the office.
  • Appointments are spaced out to minimize close contact, and physical distancing is encouraged.
  • Daily appointments are limited to allow for thorough sanitization in between visitors.
  • Temperature checks and routine screenings are conducted to make sure staff is COVID-free.

We are compliant with all health guidelines issued by the CDC and the New York State Department of Health.

What Can You Do To Limit Your Risk of COVID-19?

Patients who are elderly, immunocompromised, or in a vulnerable population are advised to:

  • Wear a face covering when coming into the office.
  • Use hand sanitizer when coming and going.
  • Wait outside in the car until the dentist is ready to see them.
  • Request for the first appointment of the day.

If you require invasive oral surgery, you may be required to complete a COVID-19 test within three days of your scheduled procedure, for your protection and ours.

Get Your Dental Issues Addressed, Safely and Confidently

We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation as we all adjust to recent changes in dental care. Together, we can reduce the spread of COVID-19. If you have any questions or concerns, scheduling a one-on-one consultation to discuss cosmetic options with our dentists can help put your mind at ease. Is It Safe to Go to the Dentist During COVID 19?

16 Jul 2020 by  admin in News

Many people have been putting off both routine and urgent medical care during the pandemic, and dental visits are no exception. But how safe is it to get your teeth cleaned or a cavity filled during the COVID-19 crisis?

According to the CDC, there have been no COVID-19 clusters associated with dental or oral surgery clinics, professional fields that have remained at the forefront of infection prevention and control. In compliance with CDC Guidelines for seeing patients for non-urgent treatment, dental practices have adopted a range of new protocols designed to keep their patients and staff safe.

Strategic patient management, enhanced disinfection procedures, and extra personal protective equipment (PPE) are just some of the measures dentistry facilities are taking to diminish health risks.

New guidelines to keep your dental visit safe

The novel coronavirus is primarily spread through respiratory droplets– secretions that can cling to the floor and surrounding surfaces. To minimize the spread of these droplets, the CDC has asked dentists to adjust procedures that aerosolize saliva and respiratory droplets as much as possible.

In some cases, this means using manual instrumentation, and when aerosol-generating procedures are necessary, they are countered with staggered wait times between patients and purification with HEPA air filters.

Patients will likely notice several other changes at their next visit. Telephone screening for symptoms of COVID 19 is standard procedure, as is the requirement for all patients to wear a protective face mask or covering.

Our patients’ safety and oral health are top priorities

Here at Long Island Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry, our patients’ safety and oral health are top priority. Toward that end, we adhere to extensive protocols for protective equipment, sanitation, and work practices as outlined by the ADA, CDC, and the New York Department of Health.

Our dentists, hygienists, and administrative team have put the following measures in place to safeguard your health:

  • Telephone pre-screening of all patients
  • Temperature checks in-office
  • Mandatory mask usage for all patients and visitors
  • Social distancing practices in place
  • Medical personnel PPE: surgical mask, eye protection, face shield, gloves, and gown are changed between patients
  • Use of hospital-grade disinfectants for equipment and tools
  • Increased cleaning and disinfection of the facility
  • Staggered appointments to reduce foot traffic and patient interaction
  • Reduced on-site staff
  • HVAC systems updated with new filters
  • Utilizing the latest protocols on equipment/environmental sterilization
  • Using single-use, disposable materials whenever possible
