If you want a beautiful, straight smile without having to deal with the hassle and inconvenience of traditional metal braces, then Invisalign could be the perfect choice for you! During your consultation with a cosmetic dentist, you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have, including how to avoid staining them because they can become discolored or even warped. However, taking a few simple precautions can easily prevent this.
Invisalign aligners are made from a clear plastic material. This means that anything that could potentially stain your teeth may also stain them– including juice, energy drinks, and wine. It’s important to note that you should not consume any hot beverages while wearing your aligners, including coffee and tea. Not only will these drinks stain your aligners, but the heat will also warp the plastic, and you may end up needing to order a replacement set.
If you’re going to drink anything other than water, you should first remove the aligners and place them in their protective case. Then, eat or drink anything you want. Before putting your aligners back in, brush your teeth, and brush and rinse the aligners. This prevents the buildup of plaque and reduces the risk of the aligners getting discolored.
However, if they do acquire a few unsightly stains, there is something you can try. First, do not try brushing your aligners with whitening toothpaste. This toothpaste contains abrasive ingredients that can damage them. Instead, order the soaking crystals from Invisalign. They are specially designed to clean the aligners and lift minor stains. Fill a cup with lukewarm—not hot—water and add the soaking crystals. Add your aligners and soak them for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
Although Invisalign aligners readily take on stains, it’s important to note that you will not wear the same set of aligners for your entire treatment. So, if you’re dealing with a stubborn stain that won’t respond to your cleaning efforts, you may be comforted to know that you’ll soon be switching to the next set in the series. Each patient’s treatment plan can vary slightly. However, most patients are advised to wear each set of aligners for two weeks.
